Malcolm Barrett
Malcolm Barrett, born in 1980, is an accomplished American actor best recognized for his portrayal of the scientist and time traveler Rufus Carlin in NBC's series Timeless.
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Barrett completed his education at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. He has been a series regular in Fox's The Sketch Show and Luis. Notably, he took on the role of Dr. Lem Hewitt in the ABC sitcom Better Off Ted, and he also made a memorable appearance in the Academy Award-winning film The Hurt Locker.
Barrett has made several guest appearances throughout the New York-based Law & Order franchise. His notable roles include a squatter and drug dealer in The Sopranos, a guest spot in the pilot of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and a new employee at Dunder Mifflin in the series finale of The Office. Additionally, he appeared in an episode of Monk as a lottery enthusiast and had a small role in Larry Crowne as a classmate of Tom Hanks' character. He has also featured in various television commercials, including significant campaigns for Hummer and AT&T. The latter, which showcased Barrett shooting hoops in a sports bar, was particularly popular during the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. He began portraying Rufus Carlin in the Fall of 2016 on Timeless.
Beyond acting, Barrett is a spoken word artist and hip-hop performer, known under various aliases such as "Tourette's," "Verbal," and "The Velvet Rope." He contributed to the 2002 EP Timber by electronic artist M Pinto and is currently developing his debut album, titled The Backpacker's Guide to the Galaxy.
