Michelle Dockery
Michelle Suzanne Dockery, born on December 15, 1981, is a prominent English actress celebrated for her compelling performances in both television and theater. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Lady Mary Crawley in the acclaimed period drama series Downton Abbey, which aired from 2010 to 2015. Her work on the show earned her a Golden Globe nomination and three consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Dockery reprised this iconic role in the feature films Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022).
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Dockery made her stage debut in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials in 2004. Her performance as Eliza Doolittle in the 2007 London revival of Pygmalion garnered her a nomination for the prestigious Evening Standard Award. She also received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2009 play Burnt by the Sun.
In addition to her stage work, Dockery has appeared in films such as Hanna (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), Non-Stop (2014), and The Gentlemen (2019). She has taken on significant roles in the western miniseries Godless (2017), earning her fourth Emmy nomination, as well as in the drama miniseries Defending Jacob (2020) and Anatomy of a Scandal (2022).
