Nia Roberts
Nia Roberts gained widespread recognition in 1998 with her role in *Solomon a Gaenor*, where she starred alongside Ioan Gruffudd. The film, which featured dialogue in both Welsh and Yiddish, garnered critical acclaim, winning Best Film at the 2000 Verona Film Festival and earning a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 72nd Academy Awards.
Following her breakthrough, Roberts continued to make a mark in Welsh-language cinema with notable performances in *Fondue*, *Rhyw a Deinosors!*, *Newes of the Weeke*, *Y Palmant Aur*, and *Glan Hafren*. She also became a familiar face on television through the long-running soap opera *Pobol y Cwm* and the gangster drama *Y Pris*. In the realm of English-language television, her credits include the comedy series *Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible*, the drama *Border Café*, and guest spots in popular British series like *The Bill* and *Casualty*.
Roberts collaborated with her husband, director Marc Evans, in two films: *Snow Cake* (2006), which explores the bond between a high-functioning autistic woman and a man haunted by a tragic accident, and *Patagonia* (2009), set in Argentina's Y Wladfa. She also portrayed registrar Mary Finch in the BBC Wales hospital drama *Crash!* in 2009. In 2010, she guest-starred in the *Doctor Who* episodes "The Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood."
