Jet Li
Li Lianjie, widely recognized as Jet Li, was born on April 26, 1963, in Beijing, China, and has since embraced Singapore citizenship. A distinguished martial artist, actor, film producer, and wushu champion, Li has made a significant mark on the global film industry.
His journey began with rigorous training under Wu Bin, which culminated in his victory at the national championship with the Beijing Wushu Team. At just 17, he transitioned from wushu to acting, making a notable entrance into cinema with his role in the 1982 film Shaolin Temple. This film sparked his rise to fame in China, setting the stage for his iconic portrayal of the legendary folk hero Wong Fei-hung in the Once Upon A Time In China series.
Jet Li made his Hollywood debut as a formidable antagonist in Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), but it was his leading role in Romeo Must Die (2000) that truly launched his international career. He continued to star in a series of action-packed films, including The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), where he shared the screen with Jackie Chan, and played the formidable villain in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) alongside Brendan Fraser. More recently, Li showcased his talents in the ensemble action film The Expendables (2010), solidifying his status as a martial arts icon in both Eastern and Western cinema.
