Gunnel Lindblom, born Gunnel Märtha Ingegärd Lindblom on December 18, 1931, in Gothenburg, Sweden, was a prominent Swedish film actress and director. She gained notable recognition through her collaborations with esteemed director Ingmar Bergman, who shaped much of her early career. In 1965, she showcased her dramatic talent by taking on the lead role in BBC Television's adaptation of Miss Julie. Her performance as The Mummy in Bergman's production of Strindberg's The Ghost Sonata (1998-2000) garnered significant critical acclaim, solidifying her status in the theater world.

Lindblom was married to Sture Helander, a senior lecturer and personal physician to Ingmar Bergman, and often appeared in credits as Gunnel Lindblom Helander or Gunnel Helander. She contributed to the stage as well, portraying Tintomara's mother in Carl Jonas Love Almqvist's play Drottningens juvelsmycke (The Queen's Tiara) during the 100th anniversary celebration of Dramaten in 2008. In 2009, she directed Jon Fosse's play Flicka i gul regnjacka (Girl in Yellow Raincoat) at Dramaten, featuring performances by Stina Ekblad and Irene Lindh, which premiered on October 9.

Gunnel Lindblom passed away on January 24, 2021, leaving behind a rich legacy in Swedish cinema and theater.
