Susan Peters, born Suzanne Carnahan on July 3, 1921, was an illustrious American actress whose career spanned film, stage, and television for a little over a decade. She appeared in more than twenty films, showcasing her talent and versatility.

Her career took off in 1942 when she signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). That same year, she garnered significant attention for her performance in Mervyn LeRoy's dramatic film "Random Harvest," earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. This pivotal role solidified her reputation as a serious dramatic actress. Peters starred in a number of MGM productions, including the romantic comedy "Young Ideas" (1943), and several wartime films such as "Assignment in Brittany" (1943), "Song of Russia" (1944), and "Keep Your Powder Dry" (1945).

Tragedy struck on New Year's Day in 1945 when Peters suffered a gunshot wound that left her paraplegic. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, she returned to acting, playing a wheelchair-bound antagonist in "The Sign of the Ram" (1948). Her talent shone brightly in theater as well, where she received acclaim for her portrayal of Laura Wingfield in a 1949 production of Tennessee Williams's "The Glass Menagerie," followed by a role as Elizabeth Barrett Browning in "The Barretts of Wimpole Street."

Despite her artistic successes, Peters battled clinical depression in the years leading up to her death due to health complications from her condition. Tragically, she passed away on October 23, 1952, at the young age of 31.
