A native of Montreal, Quebec, Kash hails from a musically rich family; he is the son of renowned Canadian opera singer Maureen Forrester and violinist and conductor Eugene Kash (May 1, 1912 – March 6, 2004). He shares a familial bond with actress Linda Kash, his sister. Daniel's heritage is a blend of cultural influences, with his father's family being Jewish, while his mother converted to Judaism.

Kash honed his acting skills at the Drama Centre in London, UK, where he developed a passion for the craft.
