Creighton Hale (born Patrick Fitzgerald on May 24, 1888 – August 9, 1965) was an accomplished Irish-American actor whose extensive career spanned over fifty years, from the early 1900s until the late 1950s. Originating from County Cork, Ireland, Hale received his education in Dublin and London before attending Ardingly College in Sussex. In his early twenties, he moved to the United States, joining a traveling theater troupe that would pave the way for his future in performance.
Hale's breakthrough came while he was performing in Charles Frohman’s Broadway production of *Indian Summer*, where he caught the attention of a talent scout from the Pathe Film Company. He adopted the stage name Creighton Hale, though the origin of this name remains unclear. His film debut occurred in 1914 with *The Exploits of Elaine*, and he went on to feature in notable silent films such as *Way Down East*, *Orphans of the Storm*, and *The Cat and the Canary*.
As the film industry transitioned to sound, Hale's prominence diminished. Nonetheless, he made memorable appearances in Hal Roach’s *Our Gang* series, including *School's Out*, *Big Ears*, and *Free Wheeling*. He also had uncredited roles in iconic films like *Larceny, Inc.*, *The Maltese Falcon*, and *Casablanca*.
Hale passed away in South Pasadena, California, and was laid to rest at Duncans Mills Cemetery in Northern California, leaving behind a rich legacy in both stage and screen acting.
