Monica Zetterlund
Monica Zetterlund, originally named Eva Monica Nilsson, was a celebrated Swedish vocalist and actress known for her contributions to music and film. At a young age, she began her musical journey performing alongside her father's orchestra and later with Ib Glindemann's Big Band. Zetterlund's talent was recognized early when she made her first recordings in 1957 and was subsequently discovered by jazz musician Arne Domnérus in 1958. This pivotal moment led to an exciting tour across the United States in 1960 with renowned artists Thad Jones and Zoot Sims.
In 1964, Zetterlund achieved significant acclaim with her jazz album "Waltz for Debby," a collaboration with the legendary Bill Evans, which showcased her unique vocal style and artistic depth. She made her on-screen debut with the film "Gröna Hund" in 1962, marking the beginning of a notable acting career. Among her many accomplishments, Zetterlund is remembered for her poignant rendition of "En gång i Stockholm" ("Winter City"), a jazz ballad that represented Sweden at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest. Her legacy is defined by her remarkable ability to bridge jazz, pop, and theatrical performance, making her a beloved figure in Swedish cultural history.
