Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer CC (December 13, 1929 – February 5, 2021) was a distinguished Canadian actor celebrated for his extensive work across theatre, film, and television. Plummer made his cinematic debut in the 1958 film *Stage Struck*, quickly establishing a reputation for his compelling performances. He garnered acclaim for roles in notable films such as *The Night of the Generals*, *The Return of the Pink Panther*, *Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country*, *The Man Who Would Be King*, and *The Insider*. However, he remains most recognized for his portrayal of the stern Captain Georg von Trapp in the iconic 1965 musical *The Sound of Music*, co-starring with Julie Andrews.

Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned over seven decades, Plummer also showcased his talent in various television productions, including the acclaimed miniseries *The Thorn Birds*. In the 21st century, he continued to impress audiences with performances in films such as *The Insider* as Mike Wallace, *Inside Man*, the animated feature *Up* as Charles Muntz, *The Last Station* as Leo Tolstoy, and *Beginners*, for which he won an Academy Award at age 82, making him the oldest recipient of this honor.

Over his lifetime, Plummer received a multitude of prestigious awards, including two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award. Plummer passed away on February 5, 2021, at the age of 91, in his home in Weston, Connecticut, leaving behind a legacy as one of the finest actors of his generation.
