Clara Gordon Bow, born on July 29, 1905, was a prominent American actress who became a significant figure in the film industry during the 1920s. Rising to fame through her captivating performances in silent films, she successfully transitioned to "talkies" following the advent of sound in cinema after 1927. Her role as an endearing shopgirl in the iconic film *It* catapulted her to international stardom and earned her the moniker "The It Girl." Bow epitomized the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties and was celebrated as its foremost sex symbol.

Over her career, Bow starred in 46 silent films and 11 sound films, with notable successes including *Mantrap* (1926), *It* (1927), and *Wings* (1927). She was recognized as the top box-office draw in both 1928 and 1929, and ranked second in 1927 and 1930. Her involvement in a film was seen as a guarantee for investors, with a near two-to-one chance of a profitable return. At the height of her popularity, she received an astonishing 45,000 fan letters in January 1929 alone.

In 1931, Bow married actor Rex Bell and subsequently stepped away from acting, opting for a quieter life as a rancher in Nevada. Her final film, *Hoop-La*, was released in 1933. Clara Bow passed away from a heart attack on September 27, 1965, at the age of 60.
