Marlene Schmidt

Marlene Schmidt, born in East Germany, made a daring escape in 1960 to start anew in Stuttgart as an electronics engineer. Her life took an unexpected turn when she decided to participate in a beauty pageant on a whim, ultimately earning the title of Miss Germany. This accomplishment paved the way for her crowning as Miss Universe in 1961, marking the beginning of her transition into the entertainment industry.

In 1962, Marlene married actor Ty Hardin, but their union lasted only three years. In 1969, she wed Iraqi filmmaker Howard Avedis, a partnership that would prove to be fruitful in the realm of cinema. Together, they created several notable films that became popular in drive-in theaters and garnered a cult following, including The Stepmother (1972), The Teacher (1974), and Mortuary (1983).
