Lê Vân

Trần Lê Vân, born on July 24, 1958, in Hanoi, is a celebrated former actress and dancer from Vietnam. Hailing from a theatrical lineage, she is the daughter of renowned stage actors Trần Tiến and Lê Mai, and the elder sibling of actress Lê Khanh and dancer Lê Vi. Lê Vân initially showcased her talents as a dancer with the National Dance Company before catching the eye of director Phạm Kỳ Nam. This led to her acting debut in the 1978 film "Chom và Sa."

In 1981, after an extensive five-year casting search, she landed the pivotal role of Mrs. Dậu in Phạm Văn Khoa's acclaimed film of the same name. Her powerful performance as the grief-stricken protagonist garnered widespread recognition and established her as a prominent figure in Vietnamese cinema. Three years later, she collaborated with director Đặng Nhật Minh, portraying Duyên in the iconic film "Bao giờ cho đến tháng Mười" (When the Tenth Month Comes), which earned her the Best Actress award at the 7th Vietnam Film Festival.

Lê Vân continued to impress audiences with her compelling performances in films such as “Đêm hội Long Trì” and “Thương nhớ đồng quê” until her retirement from acting in the late 1990s. In 2006, she stirred controversy with her memoir, facing significant backlash from the Hanoi community, which prompted her to step back from public life.
