Orchidea De Santis
Orchidea De Santis, born Orchidea De Sanctis on December 20, 1948, in Bari, Italy, is a renowned actress with deep roots in the Salento region. Her family's relocation to Rome, spurred by her father's naval career, saw her immerse herself in the arts, initially beginning her journey as a singer before transitioning to theater. Over the years, she has made her mark across various mediums, including cinema, radio, theater, and television. Between 2006 and 2013, she engaged audiences through her blog, where she shared insights into her life and interests.
De Santis flourished particularly during the 1970s, becoming a prominent figure in Italian sexy comedies, often featuring in productions that showcased a blend of humor and risqué themes. Notably, she appeared in "Alla mia cara mamma nel giorno del suo compleanno," where she portrayed a character intentionally made to look unattractive, demonstrating her versatility as an actress.
Tragically, her burgeoning film career faced a significant setback in 1979 when a severe on-set accident during the filming of Carlo Vanzina's "Arrivano i gatti" resulted in a serious elbow injury. This accident, caused by an unexpected fall into a trap door, led to extensive surgery and threatened her ability to act. Despite this challenge, De Santis remains an influential figure, actively supporting animal rights and environmental causes.
