Antonio Aguilar Barraza (May 17, 1919 – June 19, 2007) was a renowned Mexican singer, songwriter, actor, producer, and screenwriter whose influence spanned decades. Over his prolific career, Aguilar recorded more than 150 albums, achieving impressive sales of 25 million copies, and appeared in over 120 films. He earned the affectionate title "El Charro de México" (The Horseman of Mexico) for his role in bringing la charrería to a global audience. A significant milestone in his career occurred in 1997, when he became the first Hispanic artist to sell out New York City's Madison Square Garden for six consecutive nights.

Aguilar is celebrated for his powerful renditions of traditional Mexican folk music, particularly rancheras and corridos, as well as for his compelling performances in films that explored rural life and historical events like the Mexican Revolution. He garnered critical acclaim, winning the Latin ACE Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Emiliano Zapata in the 1970 film dedicated to the revolutionary leader. Additionally, he depicted Pancho Villa in two notable films. In recognition of his contributions to Mexican cinema, Aguilar received the Special Golden Ariel in 1997.

Together with his second wife, the famous singer and actress Flor Silvestre, he raised two sons, Antonio Aguilar Jr. and Pepe Aguilar, both of whom followed in his footsteps as singers and actors, forming what is known as "La Dinastía Aguilar" (The Aguilar Dynasty).
