Sharla Cheung
Sharla Cheung Man, known in Mandarin as 張敏, was born on February 7, 1967, and has made significant contributions to the Hong Kong film scene as a prominent actress.
Cheung's career took off in the early 1990s when she was discovered by the renowned filmmaker Wong Jing, leading to a fruitful collaboration on numerous projects. She gained widespread recognition through her performances alongside the beloved actor Stephen Chow, frequently portraying his romantic interest in over ten films from 1988 to 1994. Notable titles from this partnership include iconic hits such as All for the Winner, God of Gamblers II, Fist of Fury 1991, Fight Back to School, Royal Tramp, and King of Beggars. In addition to Chow, she also shared the screen with celebrated actor Andy Lau in films like God of Gamblers and Lee Rock.
During her prolific period in the early 90s, Cheung appeared in around 50 films between 1990 and 1995. She transitioned to producing in 1995 with Dream Lover, which starred Tony Leung Ka-fai and Wu Chien-lien. Displeased with the outcome, she reworked the project into Romantic Dream, featuring herself and Lau Ching-wan, though both iterations met with commercial disappointment. Following this, she stepped back from acting to pursue various business ventures.
In the early 2000s, Cheung returned to the screen, showcasing her talent in television series such as My Celebrity Boyfriend (2003) and Legend of the Book's Tower (2005) with Nicky Wu. In 2006, she took on the historical role of Diao Chan, one of ancient China's renowned Four Beauties, in the series Diao Chan, opposite Ray Lui.
