Sonja Smits

Sonja Smits is a renowned Canadian actress celebrated for her dynamic roles across various mediums, including film, television, and theatre. She first garnered significant attention for her portrayal of Sara Fraser in the popular Canadian series "Street Legal," where her depiction of a tenacious and capable lawyer highlighted her exceptional talent and earned widespread acclaim. Smits has also starred in two other notable television series, "Traders" and "The Eleventh Hour," as well as in television films like Margaret Laurence's "The Diviners." Her filmography features prominent works such as David Cronenberg's iconic "Videodrome" and "Owning Mahoney," alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman. Throughout her career, Sonja has received multiple accolades, including a Gemini Award for Best Actress, the TWFT Outstanding Achievement Award, and the ACTRA Award of Excellence. She made history as the first artist to be appointed President of the Harbourfront Centre Board and was a founding member of the ACTRA Women's Caucus.
