Plot
Set in the 1920s in rural Mississippi, Nancy Mannigoe, an African-American maid, finds herself on death row, accused of murdering the infant child of Temple Drake, the governor's daughter. Desperate to save Nancy, Temple implores her father to clear Nancy's name, revealing that the maid acted out of desperation to stop Temple from rekindling her tumultuous relationship with the charming yet unscrupulous Candy Man. As Temple fights for mercy for her loyal servant, dark secrets from her own past come to light.
