Plot

Captain Ken White grapples with deep-seated guilt after a harrowing incident during World War II, where he had to submerge his submarine, leaving his captain and crew member behind. Years of unfulfilling assignments and hostility from an ex-sailor exacerbate his feelings of emptiness, straining his marriage to the breaking point. Just as he faces personal turmoil, the outbreak of the Korean War thrusts him back into perilous waters.
