Plot

Set against the backdrop of Ming Dynasty China, the abbot of a Buddhist monastery prepares to step down and seeks the counsel of two distinguished visitors to select his successor. Unbeknownst to him, both dignitaries have ulterior motives, having secretly enlisted accomplices to pilfer a valuable parchment safeguarded within the temple.
