Plot

Fourteen-year-old Julie, feeling isolated, relocates from Los Angeles to the coastal town of Manzanita, Oregon, after her father, Robert, loses his job as a writer. The transition proves difficult for her family—her mother, Kathryn, and older sister, Susan, also grapple with the challenges of small-town life. While their father’s unemployment weighs heavily on them, Susan finds a temporary escape in a summer romance with Tom, trying to navigate her own feelings amid the upheaval.
