Set against the backdrop of 1885 Sudan, British Lieutenant Harry Faversham chooses to resign from his post to stay with his fiancée, Mary Burroughs, back in England. His decision leads his comrades—John Durrance, Peter Burroughs, and Tom Willoughby—to label him a coward, presenting him with white feathers as a mark of shame. Mary, hurt by his choice, adds a fourth feather and ends their engagement. Determined to reclaim his honor, Faversham embarks on a secret mission to the Sudan, ready to prove his bravery on the battlefield.
