Plot

Navy Commander Alan Roberts embarks on an expedition to Little America in Antarctica to explore a long-reported warm water lake. However, a violent storm forces his helicopter, along with a small team that includes reporter Maggie Hathaway, to make an emergency landing in a volcanic crater. To their astonishment, they uncover a vibrant, prehistoric ecosystem that has thrived in isolation.
