Plot

Elza resides in a remote Kalmyk town by the Caspian Sea, where the winter chill blankets the steppe in snow. When her husband, an illegal fisherman, inquires about her day, she fabricates a story, revealing her longing to escape her mundane life. Yet, fear keeps her rooted in solitude. Tragedy strikes when he fails to return from a treacherous fishing expedition, leaving Elza to confront her loneliness and the superstitions surrounding missing fishermen. As she grapples with an unexpected pregnancy, she navigates the tension between tradition and modernity, leading her further from the life she once knew.
