In 1482 Paris, the Festival of Fools brings revelry to the square outside the Notre Dame Cathedral. Among the performers is Esmeralda, a captivating gypsy whose dance enchants the crowd. Meanwhile, Frollo, an alchemist watching from the cathedral tower, becomes infatuated with her. Later that evening, he commands Quasimodo, his loyal but disfigured bell ringer, to abduct Esmeralda. However, as Quasimodo approaches her, he finds himself moved by her beauty, complicating his mission and igniting a deeper connection.
