Plot

In 1987 Harlem, Claireece "Precious" Jones, a 16-year-old African American girl, faces an unimaginable existence. Pregnant for the second time by her estranged father, she endures daily torment from her abusive mother. Despite these challenges, Precious finds solace in her schoolwork, achieving good grades while harboring a painful secret: she is illiterate. Struggling between her harsh reality and the hope for a better future, Precious navigates a life filled with obstacles, seeking a way to break free from the cycle of abuse and despair.
