Plot
As World War II looms, American businessman Jones and his partner Johnny arrive in China, intent on selling oil to the advancing Japanese forces. Initially indifferent to the plight of the locals, Jones encounters the passionate teacher Carolyn Grant during a journey to Shanghai, igniting a contentious yet electrifying connection. Their opposing views create tension, but a brutal act committed by the Japanese forces forces Jones to reassess his priorities and shift his perspective on both the war and Carolyn, challenging his opportunistic nature.
