Plot

Set in 1671 against the backdrop of impending war with Holland, a destitute prince seeks to impress Louis XIV by hosting a lavish three-day celebration at the Chantilly chateau, hoping to secure a general's commission. Overseeing the grand affair is Vatel, a dedicated steward of humble origins. The prince, desperate for prestige, exploits Vatel for even the most demeaning tasks. Despite his efforts to maintain his dignity, Vatel becomes infatuated with Anne de Montausier, the king's latest mistress. She recognizes his authenticity amidst the ruthless intrigues of court life.
