Plot

Set in a quaint French Alpine village on the brink of World War I, a taxidermist named Leon (Patrick Chesnais) receives a grim delivery of slaughtered wolves. Among them is a lone black cub searching for its family, but Leon’s daughter Angele saves it from certain death by returning it to the wild. As the war unfolds, the wealthy Garcin family, led by patriarch Albert (Michel Galabru), holds complex ties to Angele. Flashbacks reveal a gypsy woman, linked to Albert, and her son Guiseppe (Stefano Accorsi), who tends to the wolves, including the loyal black leader, Carbone.
