Carlos Acosta, nicknamed Yuli by his father Pedro, embodies the spirit of Ogun, the African god of strength. Growing up in the neglected streets of Havana, he initially shuns formal education and discipline. Pedro recognizes Yuli’s innate dancing talent and enrolls him in the National Ballet School of Cuba. Despite his rebellious tendencies and attempts to escape, Yuli's passion for dance prevails. He ultimately carves out a remarkable legacy, becoming the first Black dancer to perform iconic roles traditionally reserved for white artists at prestigious institutions like the Houston Ballet and the Royal Ballet in London.
