The story intertwines the lives of three distinct characters: Sal Bartolo Jr., a vibrant boxing coach and former drill sergeant, is the son of a famous 1940s boxing champion from East Boston. Then there's Naomi Yang, who trains under Sal while also confronting her family's troubling past. Lastly, we meet Mary Ellen Welch, a schoolteacher in the 1960s who rallies local women to resist the encroachment of Logan Airport, challenging an apathetic city government. While none of these individuals are set to triumph in the Big Fight, they all embody the spirit of resilience and inspire others to stand their ground.
