Plot

Set in early 1930s Berlin, "Kuhle Wampe" opens with a series of newspaper clippings highlighting the alarming rise in unemployment. We follow a young man, Anni's brother, as he desperately searches for a job amidst the growing despair. Overwhelmed by the family's financial struggles, he takes off his wristwatch and tragically leaps from a window. With their son lost, Anni's family soon faces eviction from their home. Now without shelter, they seek refuge in a makeshift community known as "Kuhle Wampe."
