Plot
Set in Paris during 1887, Irène is a governess for Douce, the granddaughter of the formidable Countess de Bonafé. Douce harbors romantic feelings for Fabien, the estate’s charming manager, yet their class divide makes marriage impossible. Meanwhile, Douce's father, the widowed Count de Bonafé, harbors his own affection for Irène. When Douce learns of Fabien's plans to elope with Irène, she takes matters into her own hands. She reveals this to Fabien, persuading him to abandon his plans and instead escape with her, stirring turmoil within the family.
