Plot

Set in 1892 Death Valley, Borax mining faces a dire crisis as dwindling yields threaten the company’s future. The key to salvation lies in a rich deposit, and Skinner Bill Bragg holds a pouch of it, acquired from a deceased prospector he recently buried. Stag Roper recognizes the potential fortune but aims to secure the claim for himself, keeping Bragg in the dark. Meanwhile, Roper's interest in Jean Johnson complicates matters, as her mother, Josie, sees through his deceit, hinting at brewing conflict in Furnace Flat.
