With one million Dutchmen actively playing soccer, nearly two million indulge in fishing annually, showcasing it as a uniquely captivating sport. The documentary V.I.S.S.E.N (FISHING) explores the vibrant world of Dutch anglers and their aquatic pursuits. Journeying across various landscapes—from the IJ to the North Sea, as well as urban settings and serene lakes—the film seeks to uncover the essence of the “primordial fisher” within humanity. It delves into the motivations of fishermen, pondering whether fishing serves as a hobby, a sport, or an instinctive drive while also reflecting on the fish’s perspective during their encounters with hooks.
