Plot
A storm delivers a canoe with an infant boy to a small South Pacific island, initially embraced as a divine blessing by the local tribe. Named Tama, he is adopted by the chief, but as misfortunes arise, he is cast out to live with Mahana, a girl deemed unattractive, and her alcoholic father. Undeterred by her reputation, Tama vows to return for her once he’s grown and capable. Fate leads him to the legendary Johnny Lingo, the islands' richest trader, where Tama learns invaluable lessons about life and love while honing his skills, all the while dreaming of reuniting with Mahana.
