During the initial phase of World War II, two Jewish siblings were left orphaned when their parents were taken during the Nazi occupation of Belarus. The brothers ended up confined in a German hospital, where they discovered that many other children were also imprisoned alongside them. They endured brutal conditions marked by starvation, freezing temperatures, and constant exhaustion. The one precious item they clung to was a family portrait of their mother and father, which they cherished dearly. Just before the Nazis separated them, each brother received half of the portrait as a symbol of their bond.
