The Lost Moment (1947)

Plot

A New York publisher delves into the mystery of lost love letters belonging to 19th-century poet Jeffrey Ashton, who vanished years ago. Under the alias Lewis Venable, he secures a room from Juliana Bordereau, Ashton's former lover turned reclusive elder. Juliana's stern niece, Tina, immediately distrusts Venable. One fateful night, he discovers a disheveled Tina at the piano, mistaking him for Jeffrey and expressing her longing. A warning from the family priest about her fragile state complicates matters, yet Venable remains determined to uncover the letters, even if it jeopardizes Tina's well-being.
