Plot

Celestine takes a position as a chambermaid in the eccentric household of M. Monteil, his wife, and her father. Following the father's death, she contemplates leaving, but a brutal crime involving a young girl shifts her focus. Suspecting the groundskeeper, Joseph, as the culprit, Celestine decides to remain and uncover the truth. Employing her charm and the allure of marriage, she attempts to extract a confession from him. However, her plans unravel, leading to unexpected and complicated consequences.
