Michel Piccoli
Michel Jacques Daniel Piccoli, born to violinist Henri Piccoli and pianist Marcelle Expert-Bezançon, emerged as one of France’s most celebrated actors. His artistic journey began after formal training under Andrée Bauer-Théraud and Simon, leading to his film debut in "Le Point Du Jour" (1949). Early in his career, Piccoli gained significant attention with his role in "French Cancan" (1954), paving the way for collaborations with renowned directors like Luis Buñuel and Jean-Luc Godard, notably starring alongside Brigitte Bardot in "Le Mépris" (1963).
Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Piccoli solidified his reputation through compelling performances in films such as "Le Doulos" and "La Mort En Ce Jardin". His versatility earned him prestigious accolades, including the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1980 for "Le Saut Dans Le Vide" and the Berlin Film Festival prize in 1982 for "Une Étrange Affaire".
In addition to his cinematic achievements, Piccoli was an accomplished stage actor, collaborating with prominent theater companies and directors. He ventured into directing and continued to act in notable films like "Habemus Papam" (2011). A politically active figure, he was known for his leftist views and advocacy for Amnesty International.
