Plot
Merton Gill, a passionate silent film enthusiast and theatre usher from Kansas, finds himself in Hollywood after gaining attention for mimicking the exploits of star Lawrence Rupert. Eager for stardom, he believes he's landed a movie contract when Mammoth Studios invites him to the West Coast. However, reality strikes hard as he spends his days wandering casting offices, where he forms a bond with Phyllis Montague, a struggling stunt-woman. When Merton finally receives an opportunity, it turns out to be far from the glamorous dream he had imagined.
