Gloria Grahame
Gloria Grahame (born November 28, 1923 – passed away October 5, 1981) was a renowned American actress.
Grahame commenced her acting journey in the theater before making her cinematic debut at MGM in 1944. Although she had a notable role in the classic film It's a Wonderful Life (1946), MGM doubted her capacity for stardom and subsequently transferred her contract to RKO Studios. Frequently appearing in film noir, she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Crossfire (1947), and ultimately won the Oscar for her role in The Bad and the Beautiful (1952). Grahame's career reached its zenith with films such as Sudden Fear (1952), Human Desire (1953), The Big Heat (1953), and Oklahoma! (1955), but her prominence in the film industry began to decline shortly thereafter.
She returned to the stage but also continued to take on roles in films and television, often in supporting capacities. In 1980, Grahame was diagnosed with stomach cancer but chose to reject this grim prognosis, opting instead to travel to England to perform in a play. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated swiftly, prompting her return to New York City, where she ultimately passed away in 1981.
