Plot

In the affluent enclave of Sandton, Johannesburg, youth navigate a world of lavish parties and substance use, revealing a stark contrast to their childhood memories of the post-apartheid era. Necktie Youth captures this dynamic in visually striking black-and-white, highlighting the lives of its privileged characters. Emily, a bewildered 19-year-old, struggles to grasp the social codes of her peers. When her tragic suicide occurs, orchestrated for a live stream, her friend September attempts to articulate the complexities of their world to a reporter, shedding light on the darker side of wealth and youth.
