Plot
Rae Smith's aspirations are interrupted when she meets dashing Marine Paul Saxon during his brief return to Lincoln, Nebraska, after World War II. Their chemistry is undeniable, yet he departs without her, revealing later that he is married. Undeterred, Rae pursues her dream of becoming a fashion designer in New York, achieving notable success. Their paths cross again, igniting old feelings, but Paul remains bound to his difficult wife, Liz. Seeking a fresh start, Rae relocates to Rome, where their affair blossoms, only to be threatened when Paul's son uncovers their secret, jeopardizing Rae's carefully constructed life.
