Mamie Lang Kirkland carries the haunting memories of a harrowing night in 1915 when her family narrowly escaped a lynch mob in Ellisville, Mississippi. While they fled, her father’s friend, John Hartfield, tragically fell victim to a brutal lynching. Swearing never to return, Mamie’s resolve changes after a century. Her youngest son, filmmaker Tarabu Betserai Kirkland, brings her back to Ellisville to share her story. Together, they honor the lives lost to racial violence and celebrate the resilience and hope of those who endured such dark times.
