Plot
In "In the Heat of the Night," Virgil Tibbs, an African-American detective from Philadelphia, finds himself wrongfully accused of murder by Bill Gillespie, the prejudiced police chief of the small town of Sparta, Mississippi. As Tibbs clears his name and uncovers the innocence of another suspect, he reluctantly teams up with Gillespie to find the true murderer. Their search leads them across the town's diverse social strata, where Tibbs encounters both hostility and unexpected alliances while pursuing justice and confronting deep-seated racism.
