Hull, England, in 1970 served as the backdrop for a unique collective of misfits who formed COUM Transmissions, a street theater group born from a rundown commune. Comprising mainly self-educated, working-class individuals, their early playful performances evolved into provocative explorations of sex, violence, and pornography. Central to this avant-garde movement were artists Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti. Cosey, who ventured into modeling for adult magazines, redefined her work as a feminist statement, while Genesis pushed the boundaries of physical expression in their performances, challenging societal norms and celebrating marginalized identities.
