The narrative explores the dynamic between independent Soviet artists and the West during a time when art held immense significance. On one side are the Soviet creators, struggling not just with limited resources but also with the financial means to realize their visions. Conversely, the alluring West, represented by diplomatic figures, shows a keen interest in the Soviet underground art scene. However, the process of selling art to the West is fraught with challenges, primarily due to the ever-watchful KGB. Despite these obstacles, a remarkable volume of Estonian and Moscovian art makes its way across borders, largely thanks to the coordinated efforts of Western diplomats, with the CIA playing a pivotal role behind the scenes.
