The Face at the Window (1939)

Plot

Set in 1880 France, a notorious criminal known as The Wolf unleashes terror during a bank heist that results in the murder of employee Michelle. Wealthy Chevalier Lucio del Gardo offers a lifeline to the Brisson Bank by proposing a substantial gold deposit, but his ulterior motive is to marry the owner's daughter, Cecile. Uninterested in the Chevalier, Cecile is devoted to Lucien Cortier, a diligent clerk from a humble background. Determined to eliminate his rival, Chevalier schemes to frame Lucien, exploiting the incompetence of the Parisian police chief to achieve his goals.
