Autumn 1526 sees Emperor Charles V dispatching his German landsknechts, led by Georg von Frundsberg, on a campaign towards Rome. In a desperate pursuit, the papal forces under Giovanni de'Medici face harsh winter conditions. Despite their disadvantages, the Imperial troops successfully navigate rivers and acquire artillery through strategic maneuvers. During a skirmish, Giovanni is gravely injured by cannon fire, and despite attempts to save him, he succumbs to his wounds. The Imperial forces ultimately storm Rome, leading to a poignant resolution as European commanders vow to abandon the use of gunpowder weapons due to their brutality.
